The most anticipated Latin tour in Japan in recent years, the legendary LOS VAN VAN finally return, bringing the music that has created legions of fans throughout the world. At the vanguard of Cuba's music scene, LOS VAN VAN have kept the people of the Caribbean nation dancing for 36 years with an infectious musical message capable of encouraging and inspiring everyone and anyone through good times and bad. Director and bassist Juan Formell has forged a pioneering career and an instantly recognisable sound by fusing the music of Cuba and the Caribbean with rock, jazz and the latest instrumentation to create a musical form known as "songo." Formal international recongnition finally arrived when the 1999 album, "Llego Van Van" landed a Grammy. This year sees the release of "Chapeando," the band's first studio outing for 5 years and an intensely danceable affirmation of the renewed power of the band's latest line-up. LOS VAN VAN make their first nationwide tour of Japan after isolated shows the 1970 Expo and in 1990. No music fan should miss this chance to witness the legend!

Special first appearance at Isla de Salsa by the baddest Japanese of them all, none other than Japanese reggae pioneer Nahki. Performing in New York and Jamaica since 1985, Nahki has played the biggest event of them all, Jamaica's very own Reggae Sunsplash. Back in Japan, Nahki's star reputation rose beyond the reggae audience in 1996 when his  collaboration with Diana King "I'll Do It" became a huge hit single nationwide. Still working in Japan, New York and Jamaica, Nahki's career is truly global and his interests varied. In 2002 his kicking fusion of salsa and dancehall, "Ragga Salsa", was a must-play on Latin and reggae club DJ set lists. August marks the release of Nahki's 11th full album, "Phenomenal 11", on which he plays to his strongest card of straight in-your-face authentically flavored dancehall reggae!
